Overview
Bank Import lets you import CSV files from your online banking and match them to transactions in Beeswax. You can create new invoices, expenses, or payments, or allocate imported transactions against existing records.
Imported transactions appear in two columns — Spend (money out) and Receive (money in) — giving you a clear picture of cash flow.
Note: Each import supports a maximum of 1,000 line items. If your CSV contains more, split it into smaller files.
How to Import a Bank CSV
Follow these five steps to import and process your bank transactions:
Step 1 — Navigate to Bank Import
Go to Money > Bank Import from the main navigation.
Step 2 — Click Import CSV
Click the Import CSV button to start a new import.
Step 3 — Complete the Import Form
Fill in the import details:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Bank Account | Select which bank account this CSV belongs to |
| Date Range | The period covered by the CSV file |
| Template | Select a saved field mapping template (if you have one) |
| CSV File | Upload the CSV file from your computer |
Step 4 — Configure Field Mapping
Map the columns in your CSV file to the corresponding Beeswax fields. This tells Beeswax which column contains the date, description, amount, and so on.
Once you are happy with the mapping, you can save it as a template for future imports from the same bank.
Step 5 — Select Items and Import Type
For each line item in the CSV, choose how Beeswax should handle it:
| Import Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Create New Invoice + Payment | Creates a new invoice and records the payment against it |
| Create New Expense + Payment | Creates a new expense and records the payment against it |
| Apply Payment to Invoice | Matches the transaction to an existing unpaid invoice |
| Apply Payment to Expense | Matches the transaction to an existing unpaid expense |
| Create Bank Transfer | Records a transfer between your own bank accounts |
Managing Field Mappings
If you import from the same bank regularly, saved field mapping templates save you time by remembering how your CSV columns map to Beeswax fields.
How to Manage Field Mappings
- Navigate to Money > Bank Import
- Click Manage Field Mappings
- Review your saved mappings — you can see which bank each template is for
- Delete any mappings you no longer need
Note: Field mapping templates are specific to a bank's CSV format. If your bank changes their export format, you may need to create a new mapping.
